To further strengthen campus fire safety, enhance international students’ awareness of fire prevention, and improve their emergency self-rescue and mutual rescue abilities in the event of a fire, the university’s Safety and Security Office organized a practical fire safety skills training session for all international students on the afternoon of April 1 at the West Campus playground. The training focused on realistic hands-on exercises, including using fire extinguishers to put out real flames and operating fire hydrants with running water, allowing international students to learn essential firefighting skills through immersive practice and helping reinforce campus safety foundations.
At the beginning of the training, staff members from the Safety and Security Office gave detailed explanations on key topics such as daily fire prevention, emergency response to initial fires, and the proper use of firefighting equipment, based on the characteristics of campus fire safety. They also demonstrated the correct operation of dry powder fire extinguishers. Teachers from the School of International Education provided professional on-site interpretation throughout the training to ensure that international students fully understood the key instructions. During the“real fire extinguishing”session, staff members ignited a simulated fire source on site. International students then took turns practicing in groups, following the operation steps of“pull, remove, hold, and press”to quickly extinguish the flames using dry powder fire extinguishers. In the following“real water operation”session, students learned the complete process of connecting fire hoses, opening valves, and using water nozzles to control fires.
The practical fire safety training was well organized, highly practical, and closely targeted to the needs of international students. It effectively improved their fire safety awareness and emergency response abilities, further strengthened the campus fire safety protection network, and provided strong support for building a safe, harmonious, and stable campus environment.
