The School of International Education Holds a Series of Activities on Freshman Themed Education and "International Chinese Day"

In order to further enhance international students' understanding of BIGC's educational history, disciplinary characteristics, and traditional Chinese culture, and to cultivate ambassadors for Sino foreign exchanges. The School of International Education has launched a series of international student themed education activities for over a month. The school helps international students adapt to campus life as soon as possible, understand the nation & university conditions, public order and laws & regulations.

On the afternoon of 19th April, the launch ceremony of the School of International Education's new student themed education activity and the "International Chinese Day" cultural experience activity were held at the university art museum. Pro-president Zhang Yangzhi, Director of Student Affairs Zhang Lin, Dean of the School of Art & Design Shi Minfeng, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School Yang Yonggang, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office Wang Ying, and Deputy Dean of the School of International Education Fang Yi attended. More than 60 international student and teachers participated in the event. The launch ceremony was presided over by Ms. Chen Miaoling, Dean of the School of International Education.

At the launch ceremony, Mr. Zhang Yangzhi introduced the university's educational history, disciplinary characteristics, and industry advantages to international students. He pointed out that printing & publishing are inheritors of human civilization, disseminators of culture, and disseminators of information. Calligraphy and painting are important carriers of cultural exchange. He hopes that students can further experience the charm of Chinese culture in the artistic works of President Tian Zhongli. Mr. Zhang Yangzhi presented the award to students who won the "Beijing International Style" video competition organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Beijing Municipal Government from 2021 to 2022.

In the subsequent event, Mr. Shi Minfeng gave a detailed introduction to the exhibition of President Tian Zhongli's traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, and seal cutting art works. He made everyone feel the creator's patriotism, admiration for the value of life, and a poetic and peaceful inner world. Although the art of seal cutting is only within a square inch, it can fully reflect the author's written form and layout. Mr. Shi Minfeng hopes that students can experience the author's powerful inner strength and the spirit of Chinese culture through these artistic works.

During the visit to the university history museum, international students learned about the development process and achievements of the university. The students have experienced the profound cultural heritage of the university and taken an important step towards becoming "BIGCers". Students express their desire to emulate outstanding alumni and predecessors, and become responsible pioneers and disseminators of Chinese culture.

20th April is the 14th International Chinese Language Day of the United Nations. On the morning of 17th April, the School of International Education held a series of activities, namely the "Cutting the Rabbit with the Zodiac, Sharing the Beauty of Intangible Cultural Heritage" Chinese cultural experience event. The charm of a cut captures the craftsmanship of heaven, and beauty never dies among the people. Ms. Wu Xiaofang introduced the types and characteristics of Chinese Paper Cuttings in detail. Taking the famous Paper Cuttings work "A Hundred Flowers Bloom" as an example, she explained to the students the artistic characteristics of Paper Cuttings, which are fine in thickness, clear in hierarchy, and plump and symmetrical. Ms. Xu Haixia introduced the historical origin, artistic value and cultural connotation of Paper Cuttings from its inheritance value. In the process of painting, cutting and carving, students not only learned the skills of Chinese Paper Cuttings to "symbolize" and "construct", but also felt the unique charm of Chinese intangible cultural heritage.
